Setting up direct printing of receipts and printers for printing registration forms etc.

Tritius supports so-called "direct printing", i.e. printing from the browser without displaying the print dialogue that is otherwise normally shown. If you do not know what this means, press the CTRL + P key combination and a print dialogue for this page should appear. In normal operation, when you need to print receipts, registration forms, GDPR declarations and other documents, such a dialogue would only slow you down. Especially when printing on a receipt printer you would probably end up clicking a lot.

Direct printing is possible only for selected print outputs from the lending protocol (Receipts, Leave and print, etc.) - these are mainly outputs for receipt printers.

Tritius Desktop

Our own suite of applications which, among other things, enables direct printing from Tritius.

The advantage of this solution (besides not needing Java installed) is the fact that we develop the application ourselves, so any problems/improvements will be implemented faster.

Printing multiple copies of receipts

  • In the Report category setting it is necessary to increase the number of copies printed for the given type.
  • Next, the printer needs to be configured to separate each printed page
  • Procedure for Star TSP100 and Windows:
    • Printers and scanners → Printer properties → Device settings → Page cutting: Partial cut

What you would find at the competition

Koha

The open-source system Koha offers only a limited option of direct printing from the browser, namely choosing one printer with one setting in advance and then using it. It makes use of a feature of the Firefox browser, in which the display of the print dialogue can be switched off. Firefox then prints straight to the default printer with the default settings.

If you use only one printer on one PC, this is a usable solution. But if you have one receipt printer (for receipts) and also an ordinary A4 printer (for registration forms), you will have to choose which one you will use. This can be worked around by installing several instances of the Firefox browser (in the so-called Portable version) and setting each one for a different printer.

Direct printing uses the Firefox setting print.always_print_silent. A similar setting can also be found in Chrome. It always means, however, that one Firefox installation = one printer.
